Lavandula Hepburn Springs

Posted by | Fun | No Comments

Lavandula Hepburn Springs is a gorgeous place to visit. If you ever get the chance, go! It’s so peaceful and beautiful, it’s worth the drive there. Especially for their lavender scones!

Walking around the grounds, I came across some buildings with some real character. They have that rustic cottage feel. Absolutely gorgeous! It was almost like walking through a secret garden when discovering these dwellings. The stone facades are softened by the timber trims and surrounding plant life. It would be amazing to have a yard like this!

Melbourne International Comedy Gala

Posted by | Fun | No Comments

What a fun night Wednesday night was! The Melbourne International Comedy Gala officially kicked-off. Held at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda, it was a great start to what will be a fantastic festival. There was a great line up of Australian and international comics – one of my favourites being Tom Gleeson. He can make me laugh so hard I cry!

While waiting for the show to start, I was a having a look around at this old theatre, and was admiring its gorgeous architecture. It was built in 1927 which you can tell from its grandness that it is definitely suited to that era. It always amazes me when I look at things that were created a long time ago; they are full of history and stories, and can really stand the test of time. They just don’t seem to date. And that is one of the most important elements of good design – that it is timeless and classic.

Flower Power

Posted by | Fun, Work | No Comments

The best, quickest and cheapest way to brighten and colour your day and your home is by buying some flowers. It sounds so simple, but adds so much to an interior. Have a flick through the pages of an interiors’ magazine, and have a good look at the pictures.

Most of them will have some form of plant life in them. This is the perfect way to make a house feel like a home – it adds that personal touch that man-made items can’t always do. If you have a garden full of flowers, bring some inside. If you live in an apartment and don’t have a garden, pop past a florist – or even the supermarket – and pick a bunch. Hey! Pick a few! You may even be lucky enough to have someone buy them for you! It’s an instant pick-me-up.

I also have a few bunches of faux flowers throughout my house. Use good quality ones, as you don’t want them to look cheap and nasty. Get creative with your vases too. It doesn’t have to be a “traditional” vase. Use any type of glassware, tea candle holders; even old jars for a more rustic look.

Sky’s the limit. Have some fun!

A Home in Sanctuary Lakes

I’m currently working on a project that is tucked away in the exclusive estate of Sanctuary Lakes in Melbourne’s thriving west. This vast home is a grand 55 squares and is in its rawest form at the moment – no colour or furnishings. Read More

Welcome to Romina Volo Designs

I’d like to welcome you to my website and my very first blog! As you may have gathered, my name is Romina and I’m a Melbourne based interior designer. It’s such an incredible industry to be a part of, as no two days or two projects are ever the same. It always amazes me at how different everyone is – our likes and dislikes, our styles and ways of living.

To step into someone else’s world and make sense of what they’re trying to achieve can be a little daunting at times, but also very exciting. It’s the challenge of interpreting that person or people to give them something they want – and perhaps something they might not have thought of…
